The Messiah's Ascension
Prophecy: The Messiah's Ascension and Sitting at the Right Hand of the Father
As it was written in the Tanakh (NIV & TLV),
Psalm 110:1 “A psalm of David. The Lord says to my lord: “Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet.”
Sitting at the Throne
Psalm 110 is probably one of the earliest poems in the Psalms and is recognized as the most direct prophetic poem. The Jewish scholars have long regarded it as the “Psalm of the Messiah”.
The poet David was moved by the Spirit of God and, through his mouth, sang this prophetic song for the Messiah, the Son of David, who would ascend to David’s throne forever (2 Samuel 23:1-2). Hence the beginning of verse 1 says, “The LORD” יְהוָה “ said to “my Lord לַאדֹנִי”. In the Hebrew Bible, אדוני can be translated as my Lord, my God or my master. Since David is the king, Lord does not apply here. Having called this person “my Lord,” his status is certainly higher than David’s.
How did Messiah Jesus Fulfill this Prophecy?
The Ascension of Jesus
Jesus is Now at the Right Hand of God
Romans 8:34 “Who is the one who condemns? It is Messiah, who died, and moreover was raised, and is now at the right hand of God and who also intercedes for us.”
The Jewish Messiah Jesus is the one who brings us the peace which transcends what mankind can understand. He is the Prince of Peace.
Why do We Need Jesus the Jewish Messiah?
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth and mankind, God’s design was good, and we were created to have fellowship with God. Then, mankind sinned and we fell short of the glory of God (Genesis chapter 3, Romans 3:23). We are told that the wages of sin are death – separation from God (Genesis chapter 3, Romans 6:23). God loves us so much that He offers a rescue plan for us – The Jewish Messiah Jesus died as our Passover lamb, an atonement (a payment) for our sin; incredibly he rose from the dead according to the Scriptures. Jesus is the Jewish Messiah and the Son of God!
